Zayn Malik is sharing candid wisdom drawn from his own journey in the spotlight, offering thoughtful guidance to his daughter Khai should she ever decide to follow in his musical footsteps.
The former One Direction star, who shot to global fame at just 17, knows firsthand the pressures, challenges, and pitfalls that come with early success in the music industry. Now a successful solo artist since leaving the band in 2015, Zayn is using his hard-earned experience to shape the kind of advice he would give his daughter.
In a recent interview while promoting his upcoming fifth studio album KONNAKOL, the “Pillowtalk” and “Dusk Till Dawn” singer was asked what advice he would offer Khai if she expressed interest in pursuing a career in music.
Zayn’s response was refreshingly honest and protective:
“Don’t do this as a job.”
He explained further, “That would be the one thing I would wanna say to her. I would say, ‘If you love music, don’t do it as a job because you are going to do it for a very long time and you might lose some of the love for what it is that you’re doing.’”
The 33-year-old father added that he would fully support Khai in whatever path she chooses. However, if she does decide to enter the music industry, he would urge her to commit completely:
“At the end of the day, I would support her with whatever she would want to do. If she did decide to get involved in the music industry, I would probably say to her that make sure you give 110% of your doing.”
Zayn Malik’s fifth studio album KONNAKOL is set for release on April 17.
