Kelsea Ballerini has finally addressed her recent relocation to New York City following her high-profile breakup with Outer Banks star Chase Stokes, revealing it’s a long-awaited personal chapter rather than a permanent change.

The 32-year-old “Cowboys Cry Too” singer shared the real reason behind her move during a special performance at An Evening with the Grand Ole Opry held at Carnegie Hall on March 20, 2026.

“Ever since I was a little kid and I got here for the first time, I always promised myself that I would do a season or chapter of life in the city — and that season and chapter is right now,” Ballerini told the audience, according to Knoxville newspaper Knox News.

The Grammy-nominated artist later clarified that the move is only temporary. Speaking to E! News at the 2026 Fashion Trust U.S. Awards on Tuesday, April 7, she said:

“I’m not permanently moving. I’m just there through the summer, and I’m loving it so much.”

Ballerini added that she is relishing the fresh energy and independence the city is bringing her.

“I feel this resurgence of energy just doing stuff for myself. It’s been really nice, and I’m really excited.”

A Fresh Start After Heartbreak

Ballerini’s heartfelt update comes nearly eight months after she and Chase Stokes officially called it quits. The couple first sparked dating rumors in January 2023 and made their relationship public at the 2023 CMT Awards.

After nearly three years together, they split in September 2025, briefly reconciled in December, and parted ways again after just five weeks.

With her temporary move to New York City, Kelsea Ballerini appears to be embracing a exciting new chapter filled with self-discovery and renewed energy as she navigates life post-breakup.
