Multi-platinum rapper and entrepreneur Tyga is set to make his long-awaited leading role debut in the feature film Baby, You’re a Star, a coming-of-age musical drama that he is also producing and co-wrote with Curtis Bryant.
The film co-stars Madison Bailey (Outer Banks) and Ashton Sanders (Moonlight). Set in 1989, it follows a gifted young artist determined to break free from the limitations of his environment as he navigates the complexities of love, identity, self-expression, and the pursuit of creative success in the music world.
Filming is currently underway in Portland, Oregon. The supporting cast includes music icon Apollonia, Clifton Powell, Patrick Cage, David Alan Grier, and Mike Epps.
Veteran music video director Arrad Rahgoshay is making his feature directorial debut. Brian Sher and Eric Tomosunas are producing alongside Tyga.
Born Micheal Ray Stevenson, Tyga first exploded onto the mainstream hip-hop scene in the early 2010s with his multi-platinum hit “Rack City,” which peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100.
His major-label debut album Careless World: Rise of the Last King (2012) landed in the Top 5 of the Billboard 200. Since then, he has released multiple charting albums and mixtapes — including Hotel California and The Gold Album: 18th Dynasty — earning billions of global streams and numerous certifications.
This project represents a major career expansion for the Grammy-nominated artist as he brings his real-life experiences in the music industry to the big screen.
